Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 April 2026
Introduction
Skei ("we", "us", or "our") is a personal finance app developed by MeltinBit. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding your data. By using Skei, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Data We Do Not Collect
Skei does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, or any other personally identifiable information.
We do not operate any servers, databases, or back-end infrastructure that receive or process your financial data. All information you enter in the app remains under your control on your device.
Data Stored on Your Device
All financial data you enter — including transaction amounts, dates, notes, categories, and income/expense records — is stored locally on your device using Apple's CoreData framework.
This information never leaves your device unless you have iCloud synchronization enabled.
The app also stores certain preferences locally on your device using Apple's UserDefaults storage, such as language, currency, appearance theme, and display settings. These settings are non-sensitive and are used solely to personalize your experience.
iCloud Sync
If iCloud is enabled on your device, Skei uses Apple's CloudKit framework to synchronize your financial data (such as transactions and custom categories) across your Apple devices.
This data is stored within your personal iCloud account and protected by Apple's security infrastructure and encryption mechanisms. MeltinBit and the Skei app developers do not have access to your iCloud data and cannot view or retrieve it.
You can disable iCloud synchronization at any time through your device's Settings > Apple Account > iCloud. If disabled, your data will remain stored only on your local device.
Biometric Authentication
Skei offers an optional application lock using Face ID or Touch ID through Apple's LocalAuthentication framework.
Biometric information is processed entirely by your device's secure enclave and is never accessed, stored, or transmitted by the Skei app. You may enable or disable this feature at any time from within the app's settings.
In-App Purchases
Skei offers a premium unlock through Apple's StoreKit framework. All purchase transactions are processed directly by Apple through the App Store.
We do not collect, receive, or store payment information, Apple ID credentials, or purchase history. The app stores only a minimal, non-identifying record of purchase entitlement locally on your device to unlock premium features.
Trial Period
To manage the free trial period, Skei stores a first-launch timestamp in your device's encrypted Keychain.
This value consists only of a date used to determine trial eligibility and contains no personal information. It is stored solely on your device and is not transmitted to any external server.
Analytics
Skei uses TelemetryDeck (operated by TelemetryDeck GmbH, based in Germany) to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics that help us improve the app. This is the only analytics service we use.
What we collect through TelemetryDeck:
- Anonymous events such as app launches, when an expense is added, when the paywall is shown, and when a purchase is completed
- Technical information about your device type (e.g. "iPhone 13"), iOS version, app version, screen resolution, preferred language, and region
- A cryptographic hash derived from your device identifier, which cannot be reversed to identify you personally and which TelemetryDeck uses to count unique users without knowing who you are
What we never collect:
- The amounts, dates, notes, or categories of your expenses
- Your name, email, location, or any other personally identifiable information
- Your Apple ID, iCloud account details, or payment information
- Any data that could be used to identify you individually
TelemetryDeck is designed to comply with GDPR and does not require consent banners because it does not process personal data in a way that triggers such requirements under applicable European law. Data is stored on TelemetryDeck's servers in Germany.
You can learn more about TelemetryDeck's privacy practices at https://telemetrydeck.com/privacy/ .
Advertising and tracking
Skei does not use advertising SDKs, behavioral tracking, retargeting, user profiling, or cross-app tracking technologies. We do not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework because we do not track users across apps or websites. No information is shared with advertisers or data brokers.
Automated Decision-Making
Skei does not perform automated decision-making, profiling, or behavioral analysis based on user data.
Third-Party Services
Skei integrates one third-party SDK: TelemetryDeck (see "Analytics" section above for details). The app does not integrate advertising networks, behavioral tracking SDKs, or external APIs beyond TelemetryDeck and Apple-provided frameworks such as CoreData, CloudKit, StoreKit, and LocalAuthentication.
Apple may process certain technical or diagnostic information as part of its system services (including App Store services, iCloud, and device-level diagnostics). Any such processing is governed by Apple's own privacy policies.
Push Notifications
Skei uses silent push notifications exclusively to receive synchronization updates from Apple's CloudKit service.
These notifications operate at the system level and are used only to keep your data synchronized across devices. No marketing, promotional, or user-facing notifications are sent by the app.
Data Security
Your financial data is stored locally on your device and, if iCloud synchronization is enabled, within your personal iCloud account protected by Apple's encryption infrastructure.
Sensitive values such as trial timestamps are stored in the encrypted Keychain of your device. Biometric authentication is handled by the device's secure enclave.
We rely on Apple's industry-standard security technologies to protect your data.
Legal Basis for Processing
Where data processing occurs on your device (such as storing financial records locally), the legal basis under applicable data protection laws is the legitimate interest required to provide the core functionality of the application.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because all data is stored locally on your device or within your personal iCloud account, you maintain full control over it at all times.
You can delete individual transactions directly within the app or remove all data by deleting the application from your device.
If iCloud synchronization is enabled, you can manage or delete the associated data through your device settings under Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Storage.
Children's Privacy
Skei does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
Since the application does not collect or process personal data on external servers, it complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar international privacy regulations.
Your Rights
Under applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), users have rights such as accessing, correcting, or deleting their personal data.
Because Skei does not collect or store personal data on external servers, these rights can be exercised directly by managing the data stored on your device.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When updates occur, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new revision date.
We encourage users to review this policy periodically.
